The Enigma of Parsifal – a study day at the Anthony Burgess Foundation on Saturday 13th May
Registration from 09.30. First session at 10.00. Finish at 15.30.
The day will be led by our president, Derek Blyth, who has led us in study days of all the Ring dramas, Tristan und Isolde, Lohengrin and on Brünnhilde as well giving many Monday lectures over the years. He studied music in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Durham, is an experienced conductor and recitalist as well as lecturer.
The day will cover the use of leitmotivs, the orchestration and the dramatic issues in the work. It will be illustrated with many musical and textual examples. You are welcome to bring a score with you to follow but it will not be essential.
The Anthony Burgess Foundation, on Cambridge Street, M1 5BY, is a welcoming venue.
The cost of the day is £20 for WSM members, £25 for guests and £5 for students. Please use the form, below, to register interest and to arrange payment.
This will be the first face-to face event of the society since the pandemic so it will also be a good opportunity, over coffee and lunch, to catch up with old friends.
Please note that the Anthony Burgess Centre no longer serves food so you will need to bring your own lunch. Coffee and tea will be on sale all day.
