The Influence of Wagner on the Creation of Contemporary Opera : an Aesthetic Reflection

a talk by composer Davide Tramontato

Davide Tramontano is an award winning contemporary composer, conductor and Wagner enthusiast based in Milan.  Davide will talk to us about how Wagner is still influencing composing to this day. Davide has been commissioned to compose a new opera by Fondazione dei Teatri di Piacenza  (https://teatripiacenza.it)  which he will conduct, and Roberto Rechia (who has previously worked at the Wexford Festival) will direct. Davide’s new opera named ‘Mother’ has a libretto based on Riders to the Sea by the Irish poet John Millington Singe, and will be premiered in Piacenza in June 2024. In particular Davide will share with us his thoughts about how Wagner has influenced the creation of his opera ‘Mother’.
